Per Diem/ Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays Evenings

Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES is seeking highly motivated individuals who have served locally and nationally as a bus driver, to share their knowledge and experiences with those individuals who are training to get their CDL-Class B. Successful candidates will provide instruction in the theory and daily operation of commercial vehicles. All training occurs on a school bus.

Typical Duties

  1. Preparing and delivering instructional material to assist adult students to learn how to safely and effectively drive automatic transmission school buses to obtain their CDL-B license.
  2. Develop/follow course outlines, lesson plans and assessments aligned to Federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) programs.
  3. Provide instructional support for students so that they are able to knowledgeably move through the NYS CDL testing process, including road test preparation.
  4. Use a variety of learning materials and equipment to properly monitor and assess student performance.
  5. Use relevant technology to support instruction.
  6. Observe and evaluate student performance and development.
  7. Provide appropriate feedback during instruction.
  8. Maintain accurate and complete records of student development and progress throughout the CDL process.
  9. Provide appropriate on-road guidance and driving instruction to ensure safe student use of vehicles.
  10. Communicate vehicle use needs with vendors/providers.
  11. Coordinate use of vehicles with vendors/providers.
  12. Work with students to identify drive times for practicing.
  13. Maintain all safety standards as mandated by the BOCES 2 organization.
  14. Perform other duties as requested.

Experience:

  1. Be 21 years of age, or older.
  2. Two or more years of experience as a school bus driver.

Educational:

  1. High School or Equivalency Diploma.
  2. A valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B, with passenger and school bus endorsements).
  3. Acceptable drivers’ record.
  4. Eligible to attain an adult education certification.

Preferred:

  1. Be a Certified School Bus Driving Instructor (SBDI).
  2. Be a Certified 19a Examiner.

Other Qualifications: Must be able to use computers for grade management, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet applications, and other applications necessary to fulfill the requirements of the position.
