Job description

Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island, covering Nanoose Bay to Bowser and from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve approximately 4700 students across eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grades 8-12), an alternate school (PASS / Woodwinds), and a Distributed Learning program called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with a recently completed solar project. The district collaborates with various community organizations, and the area's natural beauty, beaches, mild climate, and small-town charm make it a popular tourist destination and an excellent place to build a career. We are seeking a qualified candidate for the following secondary teaching position:

Position Details
  • ADST 8-12 Woodwork
  • ADST Technology Explorations 10
  • ADST Furniture and Cabinetry 12

The assignment may change to meet the needs of the school's educational program, grade organization, and enrollment.

Position Type: 1.00 FTE Continuing

Start Date: September 1, 2025

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively within a team-teaching environment
  • Plan and deliver developmentally responsive learning experiences tailored to secondary students
  • Implement effective assessment practices to enhance student learning
  • Contribute to the school's Enhancing Student Learning Plan and the district's Strategic Priorities
  • Collaborate with parents, district staff, outside professionals, and community agencies, maintaining professional boundaries
  • Create an engaging, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
  • Develop and monitor support plans (IEPs, behavior, safety) in consultation with Learning Support teachers
  • Utilize ICT tools to support teaching, manage information, and facilitate professional communication
Qualifications
  • Valid BC Teaching Certificate and familiarity with BC secondary curriculum
  • Teaching Degree with a Major in Technology Education
  • Experience teaching Woodwork and ADST offerings at the secondary level
Salary

Range: $59,711 - $109,520, based on experience and qualifications, in accordance with the collective agreement.
