Job description

The Team
The Lower Mainland District team is a well-established group dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people, goods, and services across the region. They oversee road and bridge maintenance contracts, rehabilitation programs, and infrastructure projects, collaborating with contractors, engineers, and various stakeholders to maintain high safety and performance standards.

The Role
The Bridge Area Manager plays a key role in maintaining and improving bridge infrastructure, ensuring compliance with maintenance contracts, conducting inspections and audits, and responding to emergencies. This position provides a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on public safety and transportation efficiency while working in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma, from a recognized Institute of Technology, (e.g. applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC) in a *related field of study and three years *related experience, OR;
  • Secondary school graduation (or GED) and a minimum of five years *related experience.

* Related experience must include at least two of the following:

  • Experience with bridge structural technology and the manufacture, erection or maintenance of bridge components.
  • Experience with quality management systems and auditing as it relates to road and bridge maintenance.
  • Experience in the roadway construction field and/or performing field work.
  • Experience in road construction project management and/or field supervision.

Preference may be given to:

  • Applicants who possess the BCIT (or another Technical Institution) Bridge Area Manager Certification or those who are currently enrolled in the program.
  • Applicants with direct highway or municipal roadway transportation related experience including contract management, project delivery, road and bridge construction and emergency response.
  • Professional Engineer and one year of *related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a *related field of study and one year *related experience.

NOTE: The Bridge Area Manager Certification through BCIT is required to be appointed to the AO 24 level. Successful applicants who have not received a certificate of completion would have to complete the certificate within 18 months and will be under-implemented at the AO 21 level until completion.
