Job Summary:



The Admission Counselor position at Marist University is a dynamic, entry-level position that focuses on the engagement and recruitment of prospective students. The Admission Counselor is primarily responsible for speaking to prospective students and their families about Marist through in-person and virtual high school visits, college fairs, information sessions and campus visits. They review applications to the University and engage in active participation in yield activities to ensure the enrollment of an exceedingly talented and diverse class. This position also includes an opportunity to travel to key high schools in an assigned territory and to interact with students, parents, high school counselors, and alumni.


The Admission Counselor conducts information sessions on campus and virtually, confers with admitted students/families, and contributes to the success of numerous visitation/recruitment programs. They will also have collegial interaction with several internal University offices and external partners. The position may also include supervision and mentorship of Marist student employees and recruitment of specific cohorts of students in support of University enrollment goals. They will also have developmental opportunities in special projects in partnership with the Senior Associate Director of Admission, the Director of Admissions, or other senior leaders.


Interviewing is expected to begin at the end of April 2025 with an anticipated start date in June 2025.



Minimum Qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree

  • 0-3 years related work experience

  • Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one



Essential Functions:




  • Independently manage geographic territory by analyzing multiple data sources to develop and create an extensive travel, recruitment, communication and outreach plan to drive new student enrollment in support of the strategic goals of the university. This will be conducted virtually and in person.

  • Review and make admission decisions on traditional undergraduate applications to Marist. Thoroughly evaluate student credentials and personal qualities. Serve as a member of the Admission and Scholarship Committee which renders final admission and merit award decisions for all applicants.

  • Conduct virtual and in-person information sessions and college fairs/nights, meeting with prospective students and their families. Prepare and revise presentations as needed to ensure appropriate information for audience (e.g., general, specific academic area, honor program, etc.).

  • Answer incoming phone calls and emails that come through the Marist Admission Office from prospective students and their families. Provide guidance to students, parents, and guidance counselors.

  • Assist in managing Admission Office student workers, by providing them with oversight, direction, and scheduling of tasks.

  • Serve as liaison to Athletics team(s) to determine the admissibility of student athletes and level of potential scholarship award.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    • Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist University.



  • 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity - Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.

  • Tuition Benefits:

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.

    • University pays 100% tuition only.

    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.




*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the University.
