Job description

Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Health Information Management (HIM), the HIM Team Lead is responsible for providing leadership to the HIM Administrative Support staff, ensuring workload timelines are met in Registration, Switchboard, and Patient Information (RSPI), as well as Health Information/Records Management (HI/RM). Under the direction of the HIM Supervisor, key responsibilities include recruitment support, staff orientation and training, timekeeping and payroll, and assisting with daily workload operations. This position involves scheduling staff with varying skills and classifications to minimize overtime and augmenting, including shifts for vacation and sick coverage. It is a multi-site/domain role involving coverage across all Central Zone HIM Team Lead positions, maintaining daily operations.

The HIM Team Lead is expected to mentor staff, fostering creativity and teamwork with a strong customer service focus and problem-solving skills. This role also plays a key leadership role in the transformation and execution of technology-enabled business processes or e-HIM, transitioning from site and zone-based practices to standardized provincial workflows within Connect Care and other third-party systems across Alberta Health Services (AHS).

This position shall maintain confidentiality of all AHS patient information in accordance with HIA, ATIA, POPA, and other privacy legislations, and shall comply with AHS Information Privacy and Security policies. Location is negotiable between Ponoka Hospital & Care Centre and Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of post-secondary education (e.g., certificate in office or business administration).

Additional Required Qualifications:
Medical Office Assistant, Unit Clerk Specialty Certificate, and/or relevant post-secondary education. Healthcare experience with a medical terminology course. Medical terminology test will be administered. At least 3 years’ experience in Health Information Management, including 2 years in Admitting/Registration, and 1 year in scheduling and timekeeping. Experience with Vital Statistics forms and processes. Equivalencies may be considered. Experience in customer service and leadership. Typing speed of 45 wpm (errors corrected). Proven critical thinking skills and flexibility in dynamic environments. Attention to detail for accurate health information recording. Effective communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:
One year experience in staff scheduling and payroll entry in ePeople or ESP. Five years’ experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Staff training and team leadership experience. One year experience with RedCAP, Client Registry (EMPI), Netcare, Person Directory, Connect Care, Meditech, e-Facilities, and financial processes.
