Employment Opportunity: Administrative Support – Summer Student

Location: Halifax, NS

Salary Range: $19.00/ per hour

Employment Term: 8 weeks, June 2025- August 2025 (Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week)

Reports To: Program Managers

General Description:

Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax and is looking for One (1) Administrative Support – Summer Student. The Administrative Support worker will work in tandem with all the MNFC staff to assist with all programs and services. This position will be focused on providing an Indigenous student the opportunity to gain work experience while continuing their education. This is a designated position for a student with Indigenous ancestry. Applicants must also be able to provide proof of post-secondary enrolment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support for all program activities for the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre
  2. Organizing files
  3. Prepare student information packages
  4. Research for resources, tools and supports
  5. Brochure development
  6. Update and maintain MNFC internal database
  7. Update and maintain social media page
  8. Plan and implement fundraising activities and events
  9. Client information sessions
  10. Assist with Friendship Centre events
  11. Vacation relief in various programs
  12. Triaging community members at the reception desk
  13. Assisting with annual Urban Indigenous Backpack Program
  14. Assist with organizing files
  15. Assist with admin at Sitamuk Cultural Post
  16. May perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Must be a youth (up to age 30)
  2. Must have attended post-secondary from September 2024 to April 2025; and be returning to full-time studies in the Fall of 2025
  3. Excellent communicator, both spoken and written
  4. Strong organizational and time-management skills
  5. Thrives working both independently (a self-starter) and collaboratively
  6. Personal attributes: respectful, able to take direction
  7. Dependable and consistently works to uphold MNFC ethics and standards
  8. This position is designated for students of indigenous ancestry, please self-identify
