Overview

Your Opportunity: At AHS our mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. The Administrative Support III works under the general supervision and guidance of the Supervisor, Registration, Switchboard & Patient Information. The role is responsible for obtaining and inputting accurate demographic and financial information on patients in the appropriate hospital information system at various entry points of the health system.

Essential functions include obtaining and recording accurate demographic and financial information on patients by interviewing patients, family members and/or care providers; consistently applying Positive Patient Identification during the registration/pre-registration process to ensure accurate record linkage, support safe delivery of patient care and reduce identity theft; verifying patient eligibility related to healthcare coverage; reviewing Financial Agreement Forms for patients without valid provincial healthcare coverage and ensuring forms are completed appropriately; preparing identification labels and wristbands and verifying patient name and date of birth when applying wristbands; informing patients about options for accommodation and the process for requesting preferred accommodation; consistently applying best practice as outlined in the Provincial Registration Standards & Practices Manual; complying with Health Information Act (HIA) and other privacy legislation in effect with AHS Information Privacy & Information Security policies. The incumbent performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Physical requirements include the ability to push/pull patients presenting in wheelchairs and to assist with carrying patient belongings up to 20 lbs.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Medical Terminology - certificate required and testing done prior to interview.
  • Accurate typing speed of 40 wpm required, and testing done prior to interview.
  • Strong computer skills are required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the English language, both written and oral.
  • Effective communication skills with a focus on excellent customer service in every interaction.
  • Excellent communication skills due to high interaction with patients and multiple disciplines across the organization.
  • Ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment, including working under pressure, adapting to changing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work all shifts as operationally required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education applicable to position – MOA/Unit Clerk/Admitting Clerk with no less than one year of experience preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare or medical office setting preferred.
  • Experience utilizing N-O-D to support patient and family centered care.
