What you'll do
- Schedule and book client appointments and follow-up appointments, including interdisciplinary appointments, adjusting arrangements according to client and centre requirements. Notify clinicians and BC Corrections staff, ensuring accurate date, time, and location details.
- Register and admit clients into PAC or Health Care Record, ensuring demographic and relevant information is complete and accurate. Follow up with clinicians or BC Corrections staff as needed. Notify clinicians upon patient arrival.
- Perform referral duties such as verifying completeness of information, gathering missing details, data entry, and processing related paperwork.
- Maintain records through data entry, collating information, and updating log sheets and client statistics. Follow up with team members as necessary.
- Type and distribute materials including correspondence, reports, notices, agendas, minutes, and spreadsheets using various software. Create and edit files for stylistic and grammatical consistency.
- Handle receptionist duties such as answering phones, responding to inquiries, obtaining patient files, greeting clients, printing schedules, and escalating complex issues to appropriate personnel.
- Provide clerical support to the Health Care Manager and department, including scheduling meetings, filing, routing paperwork, mailing, faxing, photocopying, and ordering supplies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Grade 12 plus two years' recent experience or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- Understanding of the impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples, with a commitment to anti-racism and health equity.
- Knowledge of legislative obligations related to Indigenous health and human rights, including TRC, IPS, UNDRIP, and others.
Core Competencies
- Understanding of Indigenous-specific and systemic racism, with demonstrated leadership in fostering inclusivity and cultural safety.
- Knowledge of social, economic, and political impacts of colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with relevant legislation and policies.
Skills & Knowledge
- Typing speed of 40 w.p.m.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize, operate related equipment, and carry out physical duties.
- Commitment to ongoing learning about Indigenous health issues and anti-racism.
