Job description

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation invites applications for the position of Administrative Clerk with the Protective Services Division. Founded in 1919, OSSTF/FEESO is a labour union representing over 60,000 members working at all levels of publicly funded education across Ontario. Members include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants, continuing education teachers and instructors, early childhood educators, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, university support staff, and others in education.

The Administrative Clerk is responsible for performing clerical support duties to the assigned Division, in accordance with OSSTF/FEESO policies and applicable legislation. This position is unionized with the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union (COPE) Local 343.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Respond to telephone calls, direct messages, provide information and/or assistance, or refer to appropriate department or person.
  2. Provide clerical support to the administrative staff in the division, using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
  3. Provide general information to OSSTF/FEESO members.
  4. Maintain and prepare reports, inventories, mailing lists, and databases.
  5. Sort, process, and verify applications, receipts, forms, and other documents.
  6. Coordinate the purchase of supplies and the maintenance of office equipment for the division as required.
  7. Ensure confidentiality is maintained in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act or other related legislation.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator or the Associate General Secretary.
Education and Experience
  • Three (3) months administrative experience and a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Some office or administrative courses at the college level would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive and courteous manner with members, office staff, stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public relation skills involving tact, courtesy, and integrity both in person and by telephone.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Requires close attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality.
Salary, Benefits, and Working Conditions
  • In accordance with the COPE 343 Collective Agreement, the weekly starting salary for an Administrative Clerk is $830.
  • Please refer to the collective agreement for working conditions and benefits.
  • May be required to work outside of business hours on occasion, as needed.
