Job description

Title: Dispatcher

Job Details:

Pay: $20/hr

Shift: Monday-Friday

Hours: 8 AM - 4 PM

Location: Ottawa, ON-East

We're actively hiring on behalf of one of Canada's best family-owned and operated transportation companies located in Ottawa, ON. In this role, you will be integral to the day-to-day functions of the terminal, ensuring timely deliveries and pickups of various freight. Effective communication with drivers, customers, and management is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule and dispatch drivers for pickups and deliveries to and from customer locations.
  • Serve as the reliable point of contact for drivers, balancing safety with customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with dock staff to review inbound freight manifests and prioritize trailers accordingly.
  • Assist in achieving objectives for pickup and drop-off operations, such as on-time delivery percentage and stops per hour.
  • Manage the on-time performance of deliveries.
  • Maintain contact with drivers throughout the day.
  • Report driver issues impacting operations to Driver Trainer or Management.
  • Plan P&D activities and staffing to meet operational objectives.
  • Ensure drivers are aware of any special delivery or pickup requirements and update the system accordingly.
  • Inform drivers of appointment deliveries, cash collections, and CODs (Cash on Delivery).
  • Prioritize and assign pickups to maximize efficiency.
  • Familiarize yourself with all P&D routes and potential problem areas.
  • Coordinate appointment freight with the AM Operations Supervisor to ensure timely delivery.
  • Monitor and track all equipment as assigned or moved.
  • Perform driver checkout procedures as required.
  • Assist drivers in resolving conflicts professionally.
  • Ensure all system updates are made in real-time for accurate tracking of trucks and trailers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in dispatching within a Less than Truck Load (LTL) transport environment, city/local dispatching preferred.
  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant transportation or trucking industry experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of working in diverse environments.
  • Bilingualism is considered a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
