Job summary

A wildlife rehabilitation charity in Ontario is seeking an individual for a 35-hour/week position starting late June. The role involves supporting the Executive Director with human resources, finances, and health and safety. Ideal candidates will be enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program and possess strong communication and organizational skills. Compensation is $17.00/hour with a mix of on-site and remote work.

Job description

The Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary (RVWS) is a registered charity located between North Gower, Ontario. RVWS rehabilitates injured, sick, or orphaned wild mammals and turtles with the goal of returning them to the wild. RVWS also provides advice to the public on co-existing peacefully with wildlife and preventing and solving wildlife problems.

Job Duties

Support the Executive Director and Business Services Officer with:

Human resources
  • Assist with recruiting and interviewing staff and volunteers
  • Assist with scheduling staff and volunteers
  • Maintain employee, CSJ, and intern records, databases, and reporting
  • Assist with employee/volunteer evaluations
Workplace health and safety
  • Maintain health and safety policies, MSDS
  • Train staff/interns on HR policies, health, and safety
  • Monitor workplace health and safety
  • Coordinate health and safety committee and reporting
Finances
  • Coordinate payroll, stipends, and expenses
  • Download/import deposits to eTapestry and QuickBooks
  • Coordinate receipts to Treasurer
  • Pay bills
  • Process payroll deductions
  • Coordinate finder cash and in-kind donations
  • Coordinate purchases
Other duties
  • Maintain records and databases
  • Prepare verbal and written reports to management
  • Perform other related duties as required

These jobs are made possible under the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible under the program, youth must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a post-secondary institution in business, human resources, finance, or related programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous business administration, HR, or financial experience
  • Proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks
  • Proficiency in eTapestry software or another customer relationship management software (asset)
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Exceptional planning, organizing, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet tight and evolving deadlines through strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to motivate others
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
Term and Compensation

This is a 35-hour/week position starting in late June or early July for 8 weeks. Wages are $17.00/hour. Some weekends and evenings are required. The position involves both on-site and remote work.
