The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We provide open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta's interconnected power grid and also facilitate Alberta's competitive wholesale electricity market. Job Description

The AESO places a high priority on open communication and engagement with stakeholders. To ensure the AESO has strong and effective stakeholder engagement, skilled and knowledgeable engagement practitioners are required to lead this work. This role requires a candidate to work closely with leaders on engagement initiatives that directly impact the reputation and success of the AESO.

Reporting to the Manager, Stakeholder Relations, the Stakeholder Relations Advisor is responsible for leading the development and execution of stakeholder engagement plans on behalf of AESO business units.

We're looking for an enthusiastic self-starter and creative thinker with an appetite for continuous learning. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must be a highly capable multitasker who can deliver on a broad range of tasks to support numerous stakeholder engagement plans and activities running in parallel.

A keen eye for detail and a proven ability to build effective relationships with others while working in a fast-paced environment are essential to this role.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Plan and execute effective stakeholder engagement plans guided by the AESO's Stakeholder Engagement Principles.
  2. Provide strategic advice and counsel to leaders and internal clients on stakeholder engagement strategies, risks, issues and tactics.
  3. Plan, lead and facilitate successful hybrid, in-person and online engagement sessions.
  4. Manage, develop and continuously improve the AESO Engage stakeholder engagement digital platform.
  5. Understand, support and apply the AESO's Stakeholder Engagement Framework and Principles.
  6. Manage engagement projects that are broad in scope and range from short-term to multi-year.
  7. Capture engagement lessons learned to ensure continuous improvement of engagement practices.
  8. Build and strengthen collaborative relationships with leaders, internal clients and stakeholders.
  9. Respond to emerging issues with engagement support and advice.
  10. Perform other related responsibilities as assigned to meet department and organizational goals and objectives.
  11. Balance a demanding workload while adjusting to shifting priorities.
  12. Ability to manage multiple deliverables and meet timelines to achieve high-quality finished products.
  13. Ability to research, write and edit clear, concise documents that support the consistent flow of relevant and timely communication.
  14. Ability to contribute to a team environment by working efficiently, professionally and in a friendly respectful manner, and establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with clients, colleagues, and all levels of AESO staff.

What you'll bring to us:

  1. Post-secondary education in public relations, communication, management, or a related field.
  2. Completion of the IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation / Engagement including Fundamentals, Designing, and Applying Methods for Public Participation and Engagement courses.
  3. Minimum 5-7 years of related stakeholder engagement experience.
  4. Previous electricity industry experience is an asset.
  5. Knowledge and experience planning, managing, and executing stakeholder engagement projects.
  6. Experience in planning, leading, and facilitating hybrid, in-person and online engagement sessions.
  7. Experience in project management and client consultation.
  8. Ability to understand technical projects and communicate them in a clear, straightforward and timely manner.
  9. Exceptional written and interpersonal communications skills.
  10. Experience analyzing and reviewing input and synthesizing materials.
  11. Focus on a partner-centered approach and commitment to quality.
  12. Strong presentation skills; facilitation training and experience is an asset.
