Adjuster

PRIMARY PURPOSE

A claims adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and quantifying insurance claims. The adjuster will determine coverage, liability, and quantum, providing recommendations within policy terms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and adjust assigned claims, conduct investigations, determine coverage and claim validity, interview insured parties, claimants, witnesses, inspect sites, assign vendors, recommend reserves, prepare reports, and negotiate settlements. Participate in mediations and arbitrations, and work with defense counsel as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records using company systems and external client systems.
  • Manage billing efficiently within timelines.
  • Assist with collection of accounts receivables.
  • Support local marketing efforts, attend professional and social events, and develop new business opportunities.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients and participate in reviews and audits.
  • Apply strong mathematical and reasoning skills to analyze data and reach conclusions.
  • Adapt to extreme weather, environmental, and driving conditions at any time.
  • Commit to ongoing education on industry, legislative changes, and licensing.
  • Ensure reserves, coding, and reporting are current on assigned claims.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support quality programs within the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing

  • Post-secondary education.
  • Working towards CIP designation preferred.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a provisional license.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Proven adjusting and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.

Experience

  • Proven adjusting and negotiating skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency with computers.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of insurance, claims, or business management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Ability to navigate client systems.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Analytical, interpretive, and organizational skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to work in a team.
