Job description

Position Overview

Reporting to the Coordinator or designate, the Addictions and Recovery Worker provides comprehensive non-medical withdrawal management care. This includes general care services, harm reduction education, group facilitation, individual risk screening, client registration, admission/discharge processes, supportive counselling, daily living activities, and supervision of clients dealing with substance misuse. The role involves observing and monitoring clients, role modeling healthy lifestyle behaviors, and completing documentation. Travel may be required, and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Vancouver Island Health Authority, which may include the use of a personal vehicle.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

1. Post-secondary certification in addiction counselling or equivalent, plus two years of recent related experience.
2. Working knowledge of chemical dependency and basic knowledge of community resources.
3. Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
4. Certification in First Aid and CPR.
5. Valid BC Driver's License may be required based on operational needs.
6. Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within the first three months of employment.
7. Foodsafe Certification required for Supportive Housing and Housing and Long-term Care positions.
8. Experience working with adults and youth with mental health and substance use issues.
