Job summary

Nova Scotia Health's Mental Health and Addictions Program is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Addiction Medicine physician to join the interdisciplinary team at the New Glasgow Recovery Support Centre.

This 0.2 FTE position provides evidence-informed outpatient addiction care, including Opioid Agonist Treatment, assessment and individualized treatment planning, with potential exposure to a satellite site in Pictou. Flexible scheduling supports balance with other clinical practices.

Qualifications

• Hold a current medical license issued by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
• Be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
• Hold or be eligible to obtain active medical staff privileges with Nova Scotia Health.
• Maintain membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient Addiction Medicine assessment, diagnosis and ongoing management.
• Deliver Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) and other evidence-based pharmacologic treatments for substance use disorders.
• Conduct patient-centered comprehensive assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Make pharmacotherapeutic recommendations as part of an integrated care plan.
• Develop an initial case formulation, establish goals of care, and collaborate with patients, families and the interdisciplinary team.
• Provide ongoing monitoring and follow-up for patients receiving addiction treatment.
• Work collaboratively with primary care providers, hospital services, community partners and Mental Health and Addictions programs to ensure continuity of care.
• Facilitate referrals and connections to additional health and community supports.
• Provide trauma-informed, culturally safe and recovery‑oriented care that promotes patient autonomy and engagement.
• Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions and quality improvement initiatives
