Direct Service - (OPSEU)

Full-time, Contract (Ending: November 21, 2025)

London, Ontario (London Zone)

Our Nicole's Choice program embodies this ideal by providing stable, independent housing, with regular supports, for a vibrant community of women experiencing or at risk of homelessness while struggling with mental health or addictions concerns. As a team member, you’ll work with residents to build life skills and grow their personal strengths while promoting a welcoming, non-judgemental, and harm-reduction focused environment, leading to greater wellness and independence.

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants residing in London are encouraged to apply for one promptly, as PVSCs currently take about 3 weeks to process, and employment offers cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • Starting wage: $27.14/hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a regulation-based differential ($30.01/hour for regulated Level 1). Successful candidates registered with a designated professional college will receive the differential. External applicants start at Level 1 with progression up to Level 8 ($34.41 non-regulated, $37.26 regulated). Internal applicants' levels are per the Collective Agreement.
  • Work hours: 70 hours biweekly; Monday-Friday 9am-5pm & rotating weekends.
  • Pension: Immediate eligibility for the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP).
  • Benefits: 9% in lieu of benefits.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

  • Work with clients to motivate and support goal achievement.
  • Champion clients' capacity for independent living.
  • Assist with maintaining suitable housing.
  • Facilitate resident meetings.
  • Provide health education on addiction, mental health, and symptom management.
  • Crisis intervention and prevention.
  • Support clients in daily activities like hygiene, chores, budgeting, and socialization.
  • Advocate and assist clients in accessing community resources.
  • Document client progress.
  • Maintain effective communication with team and external treatment providers.
  • Manage emergency situations.
  • Make decisions independently and collaboratively.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

Must have a PVSC completed within the last six months. London residents should apply promptly due to processing times (~3 weeks). No employment offers without PVSC receipt.

Qualifications:

  • University/college degree or diploma in social science or related field (original credentials required during hiring).
  • Experience in addiction and mental health fields.
  • Current Driver’s License and vehicle access.
  • Ability to attend work regularly.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
  • Experience in residence settings.
  • Health and safety knowledge; safe food handling.
  • Crisis intervention and ASIST training.
  • First Aid & CPR.
  • Bilingual in both official languages preferred.
