Job description

Anishnabeg Outreach is a registered charity guided by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are rooted in a strong mission and values, working primarily within the non-profit sector to support Indigenous individuals and families. Our goal is to provide access to culturally grounded services and help individuals overcome barriers on their journey to self-sufficiency and success.

The Anishnabeg Outreach EarlyON Centre is one of our key programs, led by dedicated Early Childhood Educators. Through a blend of land-based learning, culturally relevant programming, and play-based exploration, we support children’s early development and nurture strong parent / caregiver-child relationships in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES REQUIRED

Eligibility :

Applications will only be accepted from individuals who are either :

  • Registered with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE), or
  • Current students enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program.

The successful candidate must also provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check, including the Vulnerable Sector screening, prior to starting employment.

  • Has a strong understanding of child development and demonstrates excellent observation and listening skills
  • Respects and upholds the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice set by the CECE
  • Can plan engaging and meaningful learning experiences based on the interests, skills, and abilities of the children
  • Builds supportive, collaborative relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community partners
  • Can clearly articulate their philosophy of education and demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, ethics, and professional standards
  • Reflects on their practice regularly to ensure their actions are supportive of children and families
  • Communicates effectively—both verbally and in writing
  • Values continuous learning and seeks out professional development opportunities
  • Is warm, nurturing, flexible, respectful, and creative in their interactions with children and families
  • Embraces and respects diversity, equity, and inclusion in all relationships
  • Supports evidence-based practices and is open to program evaluation for continuous improvement

Principal Job Duties

  • Engage parents, caregivers, and children (ages 0–6) in play-based, in-person activities
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate programming that reflects children's interests and developmental stages
  • Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment for children and families
  • Support children’s physical, mental, and social development through interactive and inclusive activities
  • Implement hands-on, play-based strategies (e.g., games, crafts, sensory activities) to encourage experiential learning
  • Maintain accurate statistical records such as attendance logs and reporting data
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians
  • Participate in staff meetings and other agency-related meetings as required
  • Attend and engage in professional development opportunities and relevant workshops
  • Collaborate with team members to support program goals and continuous improvement
  • Report to the EarlyON Manager

Work Location & Hours

  • Location : Anishnabeg Outreach EarlyON Centre – 236 Woodhaven rd, Kitchener, ON
  • Hours : Monday to Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. – 4 : 00 p.m.
  • Starting Wage : $22 / hour
