Actuarial Technical Leader (Senior Associate) – Retirement & Health Benefits

We are seeking a talented Actuarial Technical Leader (Senior Associate) – Retirement & Health Benefits to join our Global Actuarial Services Delivery (GSD Canada) team at Mercer. This role will be based in Toronto or Montreal. It is a hybrid role requiring at least three days a week in the office.

Our Wealth Consulting Business integrates Retirement and Investment consulting to develop holistic financial wellness solutions. The Health Consulting Business advises employers on medical, dental, life, and disability benefit plans. The GSD Canada team provides analytical services across Wealth and Health sectors, focusing on consistency, quality, and efficiency.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead, delegate, and review analysis and client work; act as technical leader for projects.
  2. Guide and mentor actuarial analysts and specialists.
  3. Create project plans, monitor timelines and budgets.
  4. Perform actuarial valuations for retirement and post-retirement benefits, including data validation, analysis of gains/losses, asset performance, and reporting.
  5. Handle year-end accounting disclosures and expense projections under IFRS, CPA, and FAS standards.
  6. Calculate benefits, review plan documents, produce employee benefit statements, and prepare government forms.
  7. Participate in designing and pricing pension plans, including cash flow modeling and liability evaluation.
  8. Conduct experience studies to refine assumptions used in valuations.
  9. Develop strategies to manage pension plan volatility, including funding and risk transfer solutions.
  10. Collaborate with professionals across offices to address modern actuarial issues in Canadian retirement benefits, including negotiations, risk transfer, and policy issues.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, or related field.
  2. 5+ years of experience in pension and post-retirement benefits, preferably in consulting.
  3. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel and MS Office.
  4. Project management experience.
  5. Excellent communication skills.
  6. Curiosity and eagerness to develop new skills.
  7. Teamwork aptitude and flexibility.
  8. Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred:
  • Bilingual in English and French.
