Job summary

The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company invites applications for an Actuarial Intern to contribute to the actuarial group using course work and exam knowledge. You will apply techniques to help solve business questions with a high degree of autonomy.

The role supports data collection and analysis, identifying data quality issues, and developing automated solutions. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, English as the business language, and opportunities to learn across Canada.

Qualifications

  • Second or third year student pursuing Actuarial pattern (Commerce or Science).
  • Pursuing FCIA designation.

Responsibilities

  • Data collection from relevant sources and preliminary analysis.
  • Research, extract, and manipulate complex data.
  • Identify relationships and assess data quality for accuracy.
  • Perform analyses and reviews as assigned.
  • Identify and test underlying assumptions when appropriate.
  • Assist in automation of routine tasks.
  • Develop solutions for current business challenges.
  • Build business acumen through understanding industry terminology.

We offer a hybrid work environment that offers flexibility to our employees in balancing in-office (2 days per week OR 15 hours per week in a Wawanesa office) and remote work. Working Business Language

English. This role requires regular interaction with customers across Canada where the primary business language utilized is English.As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.

Salary

At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered starts at $26.53/hour and varies based on the number of exams and internships completed.

Job Overview

Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Actuarial Intern contributes to and supports the actuarial group using knowledge from relevant course work and the actuarial exam system. They will apply their knowledge to assist others in the pursuit of solving business problems and answering business questions.
