Job summary

The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company is seeking an Actuarial Intern to support the actuarial group using knowledge from relevant coursework and exams. You will apply that knowledge to help solve business questions with autonomy in a hybrid work environment in Winnipeg.

Responsibilities include data collection and analysis, applying statistical methods, automating routine tasks, and developing solutions for business challenges while building industry understanding and collaborating with the team.

Qualifications

  • Second or third year of study with actuarial pattern in Commerce or Science.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proactive and able to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Data collection, extraction, and quality assessment from relevant sources.
  • Perform analysis and reviews; ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Implement automation of routine tasks.
  • Develop and implement solutions for current business challenges.
  • Build understanding of industry and company terminology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Work Environment: We offer a hybrid work environment that offers flexibility to our employees in balancing in-office (2 days per week OR 15 hours per week in a Wawanesa office) and remote work.You may work from any of the following locations: Winnipeg, MB; Wawanesa, MB; Vancouver, BC; Calgary, AB; Edmonton, AB; Lethbridge, AB; Toronto (North York), ON; Kitchener, ON; Ottawa, ON; Montreal, QC; Moncton, NB; Dartmouth; NS.

Working Business Language: English. This role requires regular interaction with customers across Canadawhere the primary business language utilized is English.As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.

Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. The salary offered starts at $26.53/hour and varies based on the number of exams and internships completed.

Job Overview

Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Actuarial Intern contributes to and supports the actuarial group using knowledge from relevant course work and the actuarial exam system. They will apply their knowledge to assist others in the pursuit of solving business problems and answering business questions.

Job Responsibilities

    • Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from relevant sources

Qualifications
  • Education
    • Second or third year of study, majoring with the Actuarial pattern of either Commerce or Science degree
