Salary : At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined considering various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity, and the knowledge, skills, experience, and anticipated proficiency in the role. The estimated salary range is $110,000 - $170,000. Candidates with expectations outside this range are encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Reporting to minimal supervision, the Actuarial Expert-Personal Lines Pricing leads the development of best practices into actuarial processes and methods. They serve as experts in actuarial methodologies, mentor staff at all levels, and ensure compliance with regulations across jurisdictions. They innovate current practices and manage multiple high-priority projects. This is a head-office role requiring communication with internal stakeholders across Canada in English.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Analytical: Mastery in data access, selection, interpretation, and evaluation. Works independently, evaluates procedures, and recommends improvements. Acts as a subject matter expert in analytical methods, with strong innovation skills on complex projects.
  2. Process Improvement / Efficiency: Automates routine tasks, designs robust processes, and develops creative solutions for complex issues, assessing impacts of options.
  3. Industry: Recognized leader in the actuarial community, contributing through teaching, volunteering, or publishing, and bringing that knowledge to Wawanesa.
  4. Commitment to Learning: Shares expertise, contributes to training, and stays current with professional development.
  5. Stakeholder Management: Maintains a strong network inside and outside Wawanesa, leveraging relationships to keep stakeholders informed.
  6. Project Management: Leads large, complex projects with minimal oversight, including implementation, training, and documentation.
  7. Mentorship: Actively mentors actuarial analysts and managers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • Over ten years of actuarial experience is an asset
  • Communication: Advanced communicator, trusted by colleagues, skilled in documentation, negotiation, storytelling, and data presentation, often presenting to senior management.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Excel, SQL, R, Python, or similar; selecting appropriate tools for tasks.
  • Problem Solving: Excellent at integrating knowledge to solve high-priority problems, offering strategic recommendations.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy, reasonability, and consistency in work outputs.
  • Time Management: Prioritizes and completes multiple tasks efficiently, develops effective timelines.
  • Conflict and Teamwork: Works cooperatively, challenges status quo respectfully, and draws insights from team members.
  • Standards: Ensures team adherence to industry and professional standards, analyzing impacts of changes and recommending actions.
