Salary : At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive, and competitive package offered to our employees. The salary for this role is determined considering various factors, including but not limited to: work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, and expected proficiency. The estimated salary range is $110,000 to $170,000. Candidates with expectations outside this range are encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Reporting to minimal supervision, the Actuarial Expert-Personal Lines Pricing leads the integration of best practices into actuarial processes and methodologies. They serve as subject matter experts, mentoring staff at all levels, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations across jurisdictions. This role involves innovating current practices and managing multiple high-priority projects. As a head-office role, effective communication in English with internal stakeholders across Canada is essential.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Analytical: Mastery in data access, selection, interpretation, and use of various analytical tools. Independently evaluates procedures and recommends improvements. Acts as a subject matter expert on analytical methods and drives innovation on complex projects.
  2. Process Improvement / Efficiency: Automates routine tasks, designs robust processes, and develops creative solutions for complex issues, assessing impacts thoroughly.
  3. Industry Engagement: Recognized leader in the actuarial community through teaching, volunteering, or publishing. Applies this knowledge to benefit Wawanesa’s actuarial practices.
  4. Commitment to Learning: Shares expertise, contributes to training, and pursues ongoing professional development.
  5. Stakeholder Management: Maintains a strong network within and outside Wawanesa, leveraging relationships to keep stakeholders informed on key projects.
  6. Project Management: Leads large, complex, high-impact projects with minimal oversight, ensuring successful implementation, training, and documentation.
  7. Mentorship: Actively mentors actuarial analysts and managers, fostering professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
  • Over ten years of actuarial experience is advantageous.
  • Communication: Advanced skills in communication, negotiation, storytelling, and data visualization. Capable of presenting to senior leadership.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel, SQL, R, Python, or similar tools; selecting appropriate programs for tasks.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills, integrating knowledge across disciplines to address high-priority issues and recommend solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy, consistency, and reasonableness in work outputs.
  • Time Management: Effectively prioritizes and manages multiple tasks, develops project timelines.
  • Teamwork and Conflict Management: Collaborates respectfully, challenges the status quo constructively, and draws insights from team members.
  • Standards: Ensures adherence to current industry and professional standards, analyzing impacts of changes and advising accordingly.
