Job Overview

Wawanesa is seeking an exceptional candidate for the role of Actuarial Consultant or Senior Actuarial Analyst in our expanding Pricing Research and Development team. As part of Pricing R&D, your focus will be on enhancing our pricing models by improving loss cost models and collaborating with pricing leaders to optimize rate changes for our members. You will serve as an expert in actuarial methodologies and mentor staff in their application.

Note: We are open to hiring at the Senior Actuarial Analyst, Actuarial Consultant, or Senior Actuarial Consultant level.

Job Responsibilities

Analytical

  • Research, extract, manipulate complex data, and assess data quality.
  • Support the team by performing analyses, reviews, and completing ad-hoc requests and projects efficiently.
  • Evaluate procedures and processes, recommending improvements.

Process Improvement / Efficiency

  • Identify areas for increased efficiency in existing processes.
  • Automate routine tasks and implement advanced techniques responsibly.
  • Develop new problem-solving approaches with minimal oversight.

Industry

  • Analyze emerging industry trends and their impact on Wawanesa.
  • Represent Wawanesa at external events such as industry organizations and educational institutions.

Commitment to Learning

  • Engage in continuous professional development and cross-functional learning.
  • Apply new knowledge to address team gaps.

Stakeholder Management

  • Provide regular updates and proactively address potential obstacles.

Project Management

  • Lead projects from initiation to implementation, including training and documentation.

Mentorship

  • Contribute actively to mentoring and developing actuarial analysts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
  • Over four years of actuarial experience is preferred.

  • Experience with machine learning or pricing models and relevant software.
  • Proficiency in translating problem-solving methods into computer languages.
  • Knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, finance, and insurance principles.
  • Understanding of database systems and data extraction.
  • Excellent communication skills tailored to the audience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate progress proactively.
  • Team-oriented with effective questioning skills.
