Job Overview

Wawanesa is seeking an exceptional candidate for the role of Actuarial Consultant or Senior Actuarial Analyst within our expanding Pricing Research and Development team. As a member of Pricing R&D, your focus will be on enhancing our pricing models by improving loss cost models and collaborating with pricing leaders to optimize rate adjustments for our members. You will serve as an expert in actuarial methodologies and mentor actuarial staff in applying these methods.

Note: We are open to hiring at the Senior Actuarial Analyst, Actuarial Consultant, or Senior Actuarial Consultant level.

Job Responsibilities

Analytical

  • Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from relevant sources, and assess data quality.
  • Support the business and team by performing analyses, reviews, and completing ad-hoc requests or special projects promptly with minimal support.
  • Evaluate procedures and processes, recommending improvements or alternatives.

Process Improvement / Efficiency

  • Evaluate existing processes to identify areas for increased efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for automation of routine tasks and implement advanced techniques responsibly.
  • Develop innovative problem-solving approaches and assess their impacts with minimal guidance.

Industry

  • Identify emerging industry trends and analyze their potential impact on Wawanesa.
  • Represent Wawanesa at external events, including universities, actuarial clubs, industry organizations, and charitable causes.

Commitment to Learning

  • Engage in professional development and continuous learning to enhance technical skills and cross-functional knowledge.
  • Focus on acquiring new knowledge and skills to address existing gaps within the team.

Stakeholder Management

  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders, anticipate obstacles, and communicate proactively.

Project Management

  • Lead projects from initiation to implementation, including training and documentation as needed.

Mentorship

  • Contribute actively to the mentorship and development of actuarial analysts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
  • More than four years of actuarial experience is advantageous.
  • 7 CAS exams or ACAS designation is advantageous.
  • Experience with machine learning modeling or other pricing modeling methods and software.
  • Proficiency in translating problem-solving methods into various programming languages.
  • Knowledge of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, finance, and business principles as applied to insurance.
  • Understanding of database systems and data extraction techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, tailored to the audience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate progress proactively.
  • Effective teamwork skills and the ability to involve others appropriately.
  • Ability to ask insightful questions to gather relevant information.
