Qualifications

Schedule: Sunday, 9am to 5pm, Monday, 9am to 5pm, Tuesday, 9am to 5pm, Wednesday, 9am to 5pm, Thursday, 9am to 5pm, Friday, OFF, Saturday, OFF

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Activity Worker is responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating and participating in activities of daily living as required, and/or supervising staff.

Typical Job Duties

  1. Develop, implement, evaluate and participate in activation, life skills, recreational and/or social activities designed to meet the needs of clients. Provide residents with nursing assistant care.
  2. Observe clients and their environments, and report unsafe conditions and behavioral, physical, and/or cognitive changes. Promote client participation in activities and provide feedback regarding the performance and progress of clients.
  3. May meet with other service providers to assess activity and client objectives and goals and liaise with residential care workers and families to promote client participation.
  4. Interview clients to establish eligibility or appropriateness for activity and refer clients to other programs/services and provide information regarding available resources.
  5. Complete and maintain related records and documentation such as statistics, progress reports, activity plans and client activity profiles.
  6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. A Diploma in Recreation Service Delivery or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience in an applied Human/Social Service field and at least two years of working experience in a mental health setting including community work experience.
  2. Resident Care Attendant Certificate
  3. Valid First Aid Certificate
  4. A Ministry of Justice Criminal Records Clearance required if hired
  5. WHIMIS
  6. Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License.

Knowledge and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of and ability to do various arts and crafts, handicrafts and sports activities
  2. Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation principles
  3. Ability to develop, organize, coordinate, deliver and evaluate individual and group activities
  4. Ability to work with clients living with mental illness
  5. Ability to work effectively independently and in cooperation with others
  6. Effective time management, organizational skills and prioritization
  7. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  8. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  9. Ability to observe, recognize, report and follow up on changes in clients.
