Job description

Summary Of Duties

The Activity Aide, under the leadership of the Activity Aide Supervisor, assists residents to participate in a variety of meaningful activities. These activities include but are not limited to:

  • Engaging residents in one-to-one recreational activities
  • Escorting residents to and from recreation programs, both on the unit and off the unit
  • Preparing residents for meals and assisting as required
  • Providing cueing and support to residents regarding their personal care (e.g. assisting to washroom) when requested by staff
  • Participate in educational activities and other duties as required

The Activity Aide works collaboratively with the inter-professional team to maintain and enhance the quality of life for the residents. The Activity Aide participates as a member of the team in a manner that reflects the Hospital’s Patient Focused Care philosophy, promoting and maintaining good public relations with residents, families, visitors and Hospital staff.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario Ministry of Education
  • Experience working with seniors required
  • Dementia care experience required
  • Keen interest in working with the elderly
  • Completion or current enrolment in post-secondary Human Services programs an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • Team player
  • Computer skills required
