Job summary

RWDI, a leading acoustics and climate engineering firm in Toronto, seeks a junior to intermediate acoustics specialist to perform field measurements and analyses for diverse projects.

You will work primarily in the greater Toronto area, applying software tools to deliver results within budget and timeline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in acoustics or related field.
  • Acoustics experience is a plus but not required if degree is in acoustics.
  • 2+ years of acoustical or environmental noise consulting experience preferred.
  • EIT or P.Eng registration or ability to register.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Familiar with modelling software (Odeon, Cadna/A, INSUL).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field measurements at commercial, residential, institutional, and construction sites in the greater Toronto area.
  • Produce high-quality analysis using software packages and manage timelines and budgets.
  • Maintain a client-focused approach supporting project success.
  • Explain complex concepts in clear, straightforward language.
  • Adhere to quality assurance processes and communicate with project managers and clients.

Compensation: $65,000 - $78,000 / year

This is a junior to intermediate level position. The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of experience analyzing and resolving challenging environmental noise or architectural acoustics problems in a consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting field measurements and inspections at commercial, residential, institutional, and construction sites primarily around the greater Toronto area.
  • Producing high quality, thoughtful analysis using commercially available software packages and in-Taking ownership of timeline and budget to deliver a successful project from data acquisition through analysis, consulting, and reporting.
  • Taking a client-focused approach, where your technical skills support the success of your client’s projects.
  • Communicating complex technical concepts in straight-forward language.
  • Adhering to a defined quality assurance process.
  • Active and frequent communication with project managers, clients, and others within the Acoustics team.

Note that practitioners within the Acoustics team are purely technical. This role does not involve project management. There are, however, opportunities to interact with clients and support the project management team.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree (preferred) in acoustics, or a related subject.
  • Acoustical experience an asset, but not required if degree is in acoustics.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with TAP, Odeon, Auto CAD, Revit, Cadna/A and Bluebeam is an asset.
  • Experience with both Bruel and Kjaer and Larson Davis sound level meters and software.
  • Knowledge of common architectural terms, structures, building systems and design practices.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and analyze architectural and technical drawings, specifications, and other related materials.
We are accepting applications from candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in an applicable engineering discipline.
  • Current registration or ability to register as an E.I.T. or P.Eng.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an acoustical or environmental noise consulting environment, or equivalent related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key areas of acoustics such as:
    • Building code requirements and applicable metrics (e.g. STC, NC, etc).
    • Modelling software (e.g., Odeon, INSUL, Cadna/A, etc).
  • Ability to interpret architectural/mechanical/electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Availability to work in-person in our downtown office.
The following attributes are seen as assets for this position:
  • Consulting experience
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with acoustic instrumentation, data acquisition systems and digital signal processing.
  • Ability to deliver quality technical work with focus on project budgets and deliverable schedules.
