Job summary

Nova Scotia Power in Halifax, NS is seeking an Accounts Payable Representative to process supplier invoices, reconcile accounts, and maintain supplier relationships. You will enter payments, monitor cheque runs, and support monthly close in Oracle while handling assorted AP tasks with attention to detail.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in AP, a Business Administration or Accounting certificate, strong Excel skills, and experience with HST/GST concepts.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Accounts Payable experience, preferably in high-volume environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with confidentiality.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, able to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Process supplier invoices for goods and services for the Emera Group of Companies.
  • Reconcile supplier accounts and review vendor statements.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers and employees, providing AP information as needed.
  • Enter and upload payments to banking platforms and monitor weekly cheque runs.
  • Support monthly closing and reporting; assist in monthly AP close in Oracle.
  • Open mail, sort invoices, and perform other AP duties as required.

Key elements of this role include:
  • Processing supplier invoices for goods and services received for the Emera Group of Companies.
  • Reconciling supplier accounts, and reviewing vendor statements.
  • Maintaining customer relationships with suppliers and employees by providing requested A/P information to a variety of internal and external resources.
  • Entering and uploading payments to banking platforms and monitoring the weekly cheque run as required.
  • Meeting monthly closing and reporting deadlines on a regular basis, including weekly posting to the General Ledger and assisting in monthly AP module close in Oracle.
  • Opening and sorting mail, directing inquiries, filing invoices, and providing other accounts payable duties as required.
  • When required, you are willing to accommodate flexible working hours.
These skills will make you successful:
  • The ideal candidate possesses a recognized Business Administration or Accounting certificate, with at least 3 years’ relevant experience in Accounts Payable. Preferably you offer experience in a high-volume, customer service driven environment.
  • As a supportive team player, you possess strong interpersonal skills with a high level of confidentiality.
  • You are an energetic, enthusiastic, problem-solver and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • With a demonstrated process improvement mindset, you are highly organized and detail oriented, with ability to work independently under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • You have the ability to foster working relationships with internal and external customers, and with your proven customer focus, you anticipate the needs of your customers and initiate accordingly.
  • The ideal candidate has strong data entry skills with high speed and accuracy.
  • You have experience in the full AP Cycle (Canadian and US) – from invoice entry (understanding of HST/GST, holdbacks (including lien search requirements) and with-holding tax) to initiating & processing payments.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite of software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint in particular) is required, whereas previous Oracle Financial experience would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with procurement policies and procedures is a must.
