ACCOUNTING CLERK/PAYROLL SPECIALIST

As we grow, we are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Accounting Clerk/Payroll Specialist to join our finance team with a dotted line accountability to Human Resources. This role, located in our Sarnia head office, will be responsible for supporting daily accounting operations, processing payroll accurately and on time, and maintaining financial records. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of accounting principles and payroll practices, strong organizational skills, and a high degree of confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:Accounting Duties:·Record day-to-day invoices and complete the posting process.
·Posting and preparing payments based on payment terms for vendors
·Maintain and update financial records, reports, and spreadsheets.
·Assist in preparing reports for management and auditors.
Payroll Duties:·Process biweekly/monthly payroll for all employees in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
·Maintain accurate payroll records and employee information (e.g., pay rates, benefits, deductions).
·Resolve payroll discrepancies and respond to employee payroll-related inquiries.
·Prepare payroll tax filings and assist with year-end reporting (e.g., W-2s, T4s).
·Coordinate with HR to ensure timely and accurate updates to employee status and compensation.
Requirements:·High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
·2 years proven experience in accounting processing
·Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
·2 years experience with payroll processing.Ceridian/Dayforce considered an asset.
·Knowledge of labor laws and payroll tax regulations.
·Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
·High level of integrity and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:·Certification in payroll (e.g., FPC, CPP) is a plus.
·Experience in a similar industry is an asset.
