Established in 1960, the Company has grown to become one of Canada’s largest firms of its kind with over 500 professional and technical staff, operating in 19 offices located throughout Ontario and Quebec.

The Job:

The Company has an immediate need for a reliable and detail-oriented Accounting Supervisor to join our growing, fast-paced company. This is a full-time, in-office position to be based out of our Markham Head Office. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the individual will be responsible for:

Supervising Daily Accounting Operations

  • Oversee activities in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger and cash management.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner
  • Review and approve payment of invoices, bills, employee expenses and credit card transactions
  • Supervise, direct, and support AP/AR administrators
  • Review administrators’ work and provide training, guidance, and performance feedback

Month-End and Year-End Close

  • Perform Financial period closing procedures
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Ensure deadlines are met for financial reporting

Account Reconciliations

  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, and resolve discrepancies
  • Review reconciliations prepared by staff

Compliance and Internal Controls

  • Enforce company accounting policies and internal controls
  • Identify and report issues or inefficiencies in processes

Financial Reporting Support

  • Prepare Financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Support company management with ad-hoc internal reporting
  • Assist with annual budget compilation

Audit Preparation

  • Help gather documentation and respond to auditor requests
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of records

Process Improvement

  • Recommend improvements to systems, processes, and procedures for greater efficiency and accuracy

Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • CPA designation or actively working toward CPA
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in an accounting role
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (ASPE) and full-cycle accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
  • Working knowledge of SAGE (Sage 300 or similar)
  • Eligibility to legally work in Canada
  • Mobile phone with data plan in working order
