Job Responsibility:

The Accounting Student is an integral part of the Accounting Team at Bryan & Company and is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations to maintain accurate financial records for both general and trust accounting in a high-volume environment. The student will work closely with the team consisting of three Accounting Clerks and the Assistant Controller. This position will work on various tasks between three different areas of responsibilities (banking, accounts payable, and accounting inbox) and special projects as assigned. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and will thrive in a high volume environment.

Responsibilities

Providing support in the following areas:

Banking

  • Accounting for incoming client funds coming through the general and trust bank accounts
  • Communicating with internal stakeholders as required
  • Reporting unusual transactions to the Assistant Controller
  • Ensuring proper documentation for each transaction including banking details, signatures and requisitions

Accounts Payable

  • Reviewing and verifying invoices and expense reports for accuracy and completeness;
  • Preparing and processing accounts payable payments within due dates
  • Maintaining vendor records
  • Balancing the sub-ledger and communicating month end details to the team

Accounting Inbox

  • Monitoring the accounting inbox for incoming inquiries and prioritizing them accordingly
  • Communicating to the team when emails have been assigned
  • Conducting follow-up with staff, lawyers and/or the team as required

General Accounting Support and Special Projects

  • Assisting with month-end and year-end financial closing procedures
  • Collaborating with the accounting team to resolve discrepancies and errors
  • Executing procedures in special projects

Education & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field;
  • Previous experience on an Accounting Team (preferred);
  • Experience using accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in accounting tasks;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Work Location: In person
