SECURE invites a Summer Student to join the Metals business unit at the Red Deer Metals Recycling Facility in Alberta. You will support the finance team by analyzing financial data, reconciling cash, and assisting with cash management activities, gaining hands-on corporate finance experience.

The role requires current enrollment in a related program, eligibility to work in Canada, and a willingness to relocate if needed for the summer term.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary program in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Economics.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and identify trends.
  • Attention to detail with high accuracy in data handling.
  • Proficient in Excel; experience with accounting/financial software is a plus.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; team-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with cash reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements by gathering and verifying data.
  • Conduct inventory and vendor analysis and review costs.
  • Collaborate with AP to ensure timely processing of vendor invoices.
  • Participate in ad hoc financial projects and reporting.

Summer positions will run May-August 2027. Co-op and Internship positions may extend beyond the summer term depending on the requirements of the academic program and the business. These terms may be 8, 12, or 16 months in length.

  • Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available from May to August.

  • Complete a Medical and/or Alcohol and Drug test if the role is considered safety-sensitive.
Your Opportunity at SECURE

This position supports SECURE’s Metals business segment at the Red Deer Metals Recycling Facility. The student will support the finance team in analyzing financial data, reconciling accounts, and assisting in cash management activities. The goal is to provide hands-on experience in corporate finance, while contributing meaningful insights and supporting the efficiency of team operations.

The successful applicant must reside in the Red Deer area or be willing to relocate at their own expense for the duration of the summer term.

This role is based out of Red Deer, Alberta.

The Team

You’ll be joining a collaborative finance team that plays a critical role in ensuring accurate reporting, effective cash management, and efficient operations across the organization. The team values precision, collaboration, and adaptability while supporting a wide range of financial functions.

Work Environment

This is a full-time summer student position based in Red Deer, Alberta, supporting SECURE’s Metals business at the Red Deer Metals Recycling Facility. Working Monday to Friday, you’ll collaborate with both finance and operations teams, gaining exposure to financial processes, inventory analysis, cash management, and business decision-making in an industrial environment. The role provides valuable hands-on experience while contributing to the success of a dynamic and growing business.

A Day in The Life
  • Assist with cash reconciliations and follow up on any discrepancies to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements by gathering and verifying data from various departments.
  • Conduct inventory and vendor analysis by reviewing costs, invoicing accuracy, and helping the team with new software implementation.
  • Collaborate with the AP team to ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices.
  • Participate in ad hoc financial projects and reporting requirements, adapting to evolving needs as they arise.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Economics.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and assist in data-driven decision-making.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Excel and experience with accounting or financial software is a plus.
