Job summary

SECURE is seeking an Environmental & Regulatory Student to join our Calgary team for hands-on experience supporting environmental compliance, regulatory initiatives, land coordination, and Indigenous Relations activities.

Based at our Brookfield Office in downtown Calgary, you will gain exposure to monitoring programs, permitting, land administration, data analysis, and cross-functional projects that help SECURE operate safely and responsibly.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree or diploma in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, or related discipline (minimum one year completed).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with data.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with consultants, regulators, and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with environmental compliance and monitoring activities to support regulatory commitments.
  • Develop and maintain plans to ensure compliance with Remedial Action Plan commitments through the Alberta Energy Regulator's OneStop system.
  • Support the management of SECURE's groundwater monitoring portfolio, including data tracking, scheduling, and field coordination.
  • Liaise with environmental consultants and laboratories to coordinate monitoring programs, budgets, and project deliverables.
  • Prepare and issue consultant quote requests and assist with vendor coordination.
  • Track project budgets and identify variances or potential risks.
  • Review environmental monitoring reports prior to regulatory submission.Research and summarize environmental legislation and regulatory changes that may impact SECURE's operations.
  • Assist with regulatory applications by compiling supporting information and documentation.
  • Support permit rollouts and the implementation of new environmental and regulatory tools.
  • Coordinate One Calls and assist with digitizing land records and files.
  • Support Indigenous Relations activities by assisting with consultation tracking and maintaining engagement records.
  • Update and maintain the Master Approvals Sheet and assist in developing a legal registry.
  • Support updates to the five-year Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) budget by capturing ancillary costs.
  • Perform data entry, analysis, reporting, and administrative support for ongoing environmental and regulatory projects.

Your Opportunity at SECURE

Summer positions will run May-August 2027. Co-op and Internship positions may extend beyond the summer term depending on the requirements of the academic program and the business. These terms may be 4, 8, 12, or 16 months in length.

  • Complete a Medical and/or Alcohol and Drug test if the role is considered safety-sensitive.
Your Opportunity at SECURE

As an Environmental & Regulatory Student, you will support SECURE's Environmental & Regulatory team by assisting with environmental compliance, regulatory initiatives, land coordination, and Indigenous Relations activities.

This role provides hands-on experience supporting environmental monitoring programs, regulatory applications, permitting, land administration, and cross-functional projects that help ensure SECURE operates safely, responsibly, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

You’ll gain exposure to real-world environmental and regulatory processes while contributing to meaningful projects that support our operations across Western Canada.

This role is based out of our Brookfield Office in downtown Calgary, Alberta.

The Team

You’ll join SECURE's Environmental & Regulatory team, working alongside experienced environmental, regulatory, land, and Indigenous Relations professionals. This collaborative group partners closely with Operations and other business functions to ensure regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and responsible land management. The team values curiosity, initiative, and continuous learning while providing mentorship and opportunities to contribute to impactful projects.

Work Environment

This is a full-time student position based in our Calgary office, working Monday to Friday.

You’ll work in a professional, team-oriented environment with opportunities to collaborate across multiple business functions while gaining hands-on experience supporting Environmental & Regulatory initiatives.

A Day in The Life
