Job summary

The Floor Show is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead the accounting function in Winnipeg. You will manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight and internal controls while developing a high-performing team.

You will oversee month-end close, support audits, and ensure compliance with company policies, delivering timely and accurate statements across the business unit.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, commerce, accounting, or related field.
  • Minimum five years progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum three years of accounting experience in retail or manufacturing preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls and reconciliations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee month-end and year-end close for accurate reporting.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and capex reporting.
  • Prepare annual budgets and monitor variances with leadership.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Review financial statements and reconciliations for accuracy.
  • Assist external audits, tax filings and regulatory reporting.
  • Review payroll submissions, bonuses and adjustments.
  • Collaborate with Regional Controller and parent finance teams.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting and depreciation reconciliation.
  • Lead and develop the accounting team; promote collaboration.
  • Provide financial analysis and ad hoc reporting for planning.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Vice-President, as the Accounting Manager you lead the accounting function, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, internal controls, and team development of the business unit, while ensuring compliance with corporate policies.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing month-end and year-end close processes to ensure complete, accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Supporting cash flow forecasting and capital expenditure reporting.
  • Preparing annual budgets and forecasts, monitoring financial performance, investigating significant variances and providing recommendations to leadership.
  • Developing, documenting, implementing and monitoring effective internal controls, accounting procedures and financial practices consistent with parent-company requirements.
  • Reviewing financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness.
  • Supporting external audits, tax filings and regulatory reporting requests, including the preparation and review of supporting documentation.
  • Reviewing and approving payroll submissions, including commissions, bonuses and other pay adjustments, for processing.
  • Identifying and communicating significant accounting, tax and internal control matters requiring management attention.
  • Maintaining a functional relationship with the Regional Controller and collaborating with parent-company finance teams on technical accounting, reporting, policy and compliance matters.
  • Overseeing fixed asset accounting, including asset additions, disposals, depreciation and reconciliation to capital expenditure records.
  • Leading, supervising, coaching and developing the Accounting team members, while promoting a collaborative work environment.
  • Providing financial analysis, ad hoc reporting and support for business planning, operational decisions and special projects.

  • Minimum three years of accounting experience in a retail or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls and account reconciliation processes.
  • Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
  • Proficient using office equipment and Microsoft Office Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and PowerPoint) and accounting software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Previous experience supervising, coaching and developing an accounting team is preferred.

Work Conditions

You primarily work in retail sales setting during regular business hours with 1 evening and 1 Saturday on alternating weeks. Overtime may occasionally be required.
