  • Investigate and clear reconciling items promptly; maintain an aging of unresolved items.
  • Reconcile intercompany balances across related entities and prepare elimination entries.
Month-end and year-end close (approx. 25%)
  • Lead the monthly close calendar; prepare and review journal entries, accruals and amortization.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and variance commentary against budget.
  • Prepare audit working papers and act as primary contact for the external auditors.
  • Apply Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNPO), including restricted fund and deferred contribution accounting.
Operations, controls and compliance (approx. 20%)
  • Supervise and review accounts payable, accounts receivable/tuition billing and payroll processing.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, segregation of duties and approval workflows.
  • Ensure timely filing and remittance of GST/PST rebates, source deductions, T4s, T4As, the T3010 charity return and other statutory filings.
  • Safeguard personal and financial information in line with BC PIPA and school privacy policy.
