Job description

Marshall Canada is seeking an Accounting Manager to join our team in Ottawa, ON. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role is responsible to prepare and analyze financial information including reports and statements while ensuring accounting standards are met. This role will manage all daily accounting functions as well as assigned direct reports.

Your responsibilities in the role:

  • Lead the preparation of monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet control accounts for multiple organizations with the assistance of the accountant.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly management accounts in accordance with the company timelines along with written commentary of the Business Stream results.
  • Review monthly and annual financial statements with the Head of Finance prior to submission to Business Units.
  • Submit Monthly information to Group for consolidation into appropriate Business Unit’s, meeting external facing deadlines.
  • Liaise with external accountants in the preparation of annual review statements for Marshall Canada organizations.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgeting and forecasting requirements for the various Business Units.
  • Complete tax reporting and other government statutory remittances to ensure compliance with legislated bodies both provincially and federally monthly and annually.
  • Review payroll on a bi-weekly basis; Provide back up support to Payroll when Accountant absent.
  • Provide oversight to accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and ensure these activities occur within acceptable timelines.
  • Forecast, track, and report cash movements.
  • Ensure the policies and procedures of the finance department are complied with and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Management, training, and development of the Accounting team.
  • Oversee the operational workload of team, ensuring team members are fully utilized in order to deliver against objectives and priorities.
  • Monitor team performance and take corrective action (with support from HR) as required and ensure the delivery of services that meet or exceed the required standard.
  • Lead development discussion with team members to improve individual and collective capability.
  • Ensure all financial deadlines are met in an accurate and timely manner.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Head of Finance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration.
  • CPA designation.
  • Relevant experience in a similar role, with full-cycle accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and data mining skills.
  • Previous experience in cost and job (project) accounting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian PE GAAP.
  • Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage a variety of audiences: fluent written and oral English is mandatory.

Must be eligible to meet the requirements of export control regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian government security requirements.
