Overview

Job Posting: Manager, Accounting

The Degagne Group of Companies is looking for a dedicated Accounting Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, you will oversee and manage financial operations, with a strong emphasis on integrating corporate information. Your responsibilities will include managing the daily activities of the accounting team and payroll, as well as preparing budgets, projections, and account analyses. You will also provide monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to decision-makers, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and practices as well as government regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead monthly account analysis and daily reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including, but not limited to, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accruals, prepaids, customer deposits, and sales taxes.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries.
  • Oversee and manage month-end and quarter-end close processes.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for submission to the Director of Accounting.
  • Liaise with external auditors, including, but not limited to, preparation of year-end filing requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with tax and other regulatory filing requirements (GST, HST, WSIB, EHT, etc.).
  • Oversee payroll processing, including:
    • Weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing
    • Maintenance of leave, including accrued vacation and banked hours
    • Preparation of ROEs, and T4 slips with T4 Summary
  • Manage the accounting team, overseeing AR and AP functions, general accounting, payroll and ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Motivate and coach accounting staff to achieve performance goals.
  • Apply advanced accounting software skills and proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Plan, implement, and manage projects effectively.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities.
  • Utilize cutting-edge technology to drive continuous improvements in financial operations.
Qualifications
  • A post-secondary degree in Commerce, Business Administration with a focus on Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive professional experience in financial reporting, strategy, and systems oversight.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required or the ability to obtain one.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Self-motivated and able to complete assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to recognize errors and inconsistencies with a high level of accuracy.
  • Possesses excellent organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated reliability and ability to work flex hours as required.
