Job summary

KLS Earthworks Inc. is seeking an Accounting Manager to strengthen the finance function and support the business through its next growth phase.

The Controller will own day-to-day accounting operations and deliver financial insight for decisions, working closely with the CFO and executive leadership. Established in 1990, KLS Earthworks & Environmental is a Western Canada leader in excavation, earthworks and environmental construction.

Qualifications

• CPA designation is required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience with 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Experience with job costing, manufacturing or construction accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with ERP systems.
• Strong leadership with ability to mentor and manage a team.
• Excellent analytical and strategic thinking with attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; manage multiple priorities.
• Proactive, results‑oriented problem solver beyond standard processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow the finance team.
• Manage full-cycle accounting, including month-end closing.
• Oversee project revenue and cost accounting, accruals and analysis.
• Review, approve, and post accounts payable batches.
• Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Manage inventory and capital asset accounting.
• Provide payroll back-up support (timesheets and payroll).
• Prepare month-end financial statements and variance analysis.
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Provide financial analysis to support operations.
• Prepare audit working papers.
• Prepare and file monthly GST returns.
• Coordinate annual insurance renewals.
• Support customer collections and follow-up.
• Lead or contribute to special projects as required.

What You’ll Do

Accounting Operations

• Lead, mentor and grow the finance team
• Manage full-cycle accounting, including month‑end closing
