The Ontario Cannabis Store provides safe, responsible access to recreational cannabis for adults 19 and older. We operate the sole legal online store for recreational cannabis in Ontario and are the provincial wholesaler of cannabis for private retail stores.

About the Role

We’re looking for an Accounting Lead, Inventory to join our team! The Accounting Lead, Inventory will be responsible for managing accounting activities, and providing specialized analysis and financial reporting related to inventory.

This role will ensure compliance with IFRS, internal accounting policies, and government directives, focusing on accurate inventory accounting and reporting. The Accounting Lead will direct work to ensure effective inventory processes, manage financial reporting tasks, and collaborate with other departments to address inventory-related issues.

About Your Day

  • Oversee inventory transactions, account reconciliations, journal entry verifications and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS and internal policies.
  • Analyze and resolve inventory-related financial issues, providing recommendations for senior management and auditors.
  • Provide technical expertise and problem resolution.
  • Serve as a key resource for inventory policies and procedures including providing training to staff.
  • Evaluate inventory processes and procedures, recommend improvements.
  • Ensure financial compliance with policies and procedures, audit and accounting disclosure requirement, and applicable legal rules and regulations.
  • Follow up on and remediate internal and external audit findings related to inventory in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team and other departments to address inventory accounting issues.
  • Oversee the day-to-day inventory accounting tasks, ensuring timely completion, operational efficiency, and appropriate issue escalation.
  • Collaborate with IT team to support investigation and resolution of technical issues and contribute to system enhancements related to inventory processes.
  • Support effective vendor relationship management by monitoring the resolution of internal and external inquiries, Purchase order/Invoice discrepancies and reconciliation of activities through the LP Vendor reconciliation mailbox.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend solutions to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls within the inventory team.
  • Provide oversight and coordination for the responsibilities assigned to the team, including the review of bank changes and setup, ensuring strong controls.
  • Promoting an inclusive and innovative work environment.

About You

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in finance
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred
  • CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA) is required
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial systems (ERP, D365 preferred) and data query tools.
  • Power Bi experience is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tight deadlines and high workloads.
  • Self-motivated, with strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Sound business acumen and effective decision-making capabilities.

About the Job

  • This position currently offers a hybrid work schedule. The current in office requirement is a minimum of 3 days/week (may be more depending on business needs). The OCS office is located near York Mills and Yonge Street. However, OCS reserves the right to change this policy and its office location at any time.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $95,000-$105,000. This is a pay grade 6 role, with a salary range of $ 71,066.63- $ 106,316.64. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
