• Provides financial and administrative support to the finance team by ensuring all invoices charged to the YWCA Hamilton are processed for payment in a timely manner;
• Enters approved invoices, cheque requisitions, petty cash reimbursements, and employee expenses
into accounting system (SAGE) for payments;
• Verifies statements of account from various vendors and coordinates with vendors as needed;
• Perform day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, and recording accounts payable data;
• Ensures confidentiality of financial records and employee information;
• Assists with filing and general correspondence;
• Responds to enquiries, resolves or directs calls to appropriate individuals;
• Maintains accounts payable vendor database;
• Maintains accurate records/files and documentation in accordance with YWCA policy and accepted accounting practices;
• Works safely, reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
• Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
• Understands emerging trends and industry professional standards;
• Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
• Performs other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Works 35 hours per week.
Qualifications
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations;
• Completion of 2 years’ college in accounting, bookkeeping, or equivalent preferred;
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting or bookkeeping preferred;
• Experience in Microsoft Excel considered an asset;
• Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Must provide a current Criminal record Judicial Matters or willingness to obtain at own cost;
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team;
• Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
This is a temporary summer position which is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Eligible applications must meet the following criteria of the program to be considered:
