Description du poste

ACCOUNTING & FINANCE DIRECTOR

Location: Montreal, QC | On-Site, 5 Days a Week | Full-Time

Are you an experienced accounting professional ready to move beyond managing the numbers and take ownership of the bigger financial picture? This opportunity brings together the technical depth of a Financial Controller and the strategic, people-focused responsibilities of an Accounting Director.

We are supporting a growing, cross-border business in its search for a driven and hands-on finance leader to oversee its accounting operations, strengthen financial processes, and help shape the company's financial direction. This is an opportunity to take ownership of the finance function from end to end, work closely with senior leadership, and build the structure and processes needed to support continued growth.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys being close to the details while also looking ahead — balancing accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls with budgeting, forecasting, team leadership, and business partnership.

The Opportunity

This role combines day-to-day accounting oversight with broader financial management and leadership. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial information, improving operational efficiency, and providing the insights leadership needs to make informed business decisions.

Working across multiple business entities in Canada and the United States, you will help establish consistent financial practices, strengthen reporting capabilities, and oversee key accounting, administrative, and people-related processes.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

  • Oversee the full accounting cycle, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable financial records.
  • Lead monthly and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, reporting, and financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare consolidated financial reports across multiple entities and business divisions.
  • Manage intercompany transactions, account reconciliations, and consolidation activities.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, including accounts payable approvals, expense management, accounts receivable, and collections.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and reporting, working with third-party logistics providers to maintain accurate inventory records.

Financial Planning & Business Support

  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts, annual budgets, and financial projections.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget, investigate variances, and communicate key findings to leadership.
  • Provide financial analysis and practical recommendations to support operational decisions and business growth.
  • Work closely with ownership and senior management on financial planning, business performance, and strategic priorities.
  • Act as the primary banking contact and manage banking relationships in both Canada and the United States.

Compliance & External Relationships

  • Oversee tax-related obligations, statutory remittances, and cross-border payroll coordination.
  • Coordinate annual financial reviews and serve as the main point of contact for external accountants, auditors, and professional advisors.
  • Ensure accounting practices and financial processes remain organized, consistent, and compliant with applicable requirements.
  • Manage and optimize the company's ERP system, helping improve reporting accuracy, process efficiency, and financial visibility.

Team Leadership & Administration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, establishing clear responsibilities, processes, and performance standards.
  • Build a collaborative, accountable, and solutions-oriented working environment.
  • Support the development and implementation of HR policies, hiring, onboarding, and related administrative processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen procedures, and improve the overall effectiveness of the finance function.
What We're Looking For
  • A CPA designation, equivalent professional qualification, or progress toward a CPA, supported by solid accounting experience.
  • A strong accounting foundation, with experience overseeing month-end close, financial reporting, and general accounting operations.
  • The ability and motivation to operate at both the Financial Controller and Accounting Director levels, combining hands-on execution with broader financial oversight.
  • Experience with budgeting, cash flow forecasting, financial analysis, and variance reporting.
  • Knowledge of multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and consolidations.
  • Experience coordinating external accountants, auditors, annual reviews, and other professional service providers.
  • Familiarity with internal controls, banking relationships, and financial compliance.
  • ERP experience and an interest in improving systems and processes; Odoo experience would be an asset.
  • Exposure to cross-border accounting, tax, payroll, or business operations involving Canada and the United States would be beneficial.
  • Emerging or established leadership skills, with the ability to coach team members, introduce structure, and establish consistent standards.
  • A willingness to contribute to HR administration and people-related processes as needed.

Your approach matters, too. We're looking for someone who is detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture, comfortable taking initiative, and able to communicate financial information clearly. You should be organized, adaptable, composed under pressure, and motivated to make meaningful improvements rather than simply maintain the status quo.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role offers the chance to take genuine ownership of a finance function within a growing business. Rather than being one contributor within a large, established department, you will have the opportunity to influence how finance operates, build stronger processes, develop a team, and work directly with ownership on business priorities.

For an accounting professional ready to broaden their scope, this position offers a meaningful blend of technical accounting, financial control, operational leadership, and strategic involvement.

If you're ready to combine strong accounting expertise with a broader leadership mandate, we'd welcome the opportunity to connect.
