RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

The Research Institute of the MUHC (RI-MUHC) is seeking a skilled and motivated Accounting Analyst to join our Finance team. Reporting directly to the Controller, you will be responsible for month-end closing, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role also involves supporting audit preparations, accounts payable functions, and compliance monitoring. You will have the opportunity to work on process improvements and financial optimization projects in a collaborative and innovative research environment.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review and post journal entries, process re-classes and accruals in compliance with accounting standards and RI-MUHC policies.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, promptly addressing any discrepancies.
  • Compile and analyze financial data to ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closes.
  • Support external audits, process open PO and Revenue accruals and prepare schedules, reconciliations and required documentation.
  • Maintain Principal Investigator commitments database, process transfers and prepare commitments schedule for the annual audit file.
  • Maintain the fixed assets register, account for additions, disposals and retirement of assets as per the Fixed Asset Policy. Moreover, prepare the capital and depreciation budgets, and perform financial analyses for relevant capital expenditures.
  • Reconcile and distribute monthly CIHR funds into multiple Principal Investigator cost centers.
  • Act as a back-up to Billing and Collection Agent.
  • Identify and resolve any technical issues related to import files (P-card and Travel Card).
  • Correct any data errors after importation if necessary.
  • Perform Analysis on credit card spending.
  • Ensure compliant use of the credit cards according to P-card and T&E Policy and report deficiencies.
  • Communicate and follow up on incomplete documentation.
  • Assist in vendor reconciliations and expense verification.
  • Ensure proper documentation and approvals for purchase orders and expense reports.
  • Support payment processing and cash disbursements as required.
  • Perform T4A analysis on a quarterly basis to facilitate on time year-end reporting.
  • Assist in enhancing accounting processes and controls for better efficiency and accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and improve financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation for compliance and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Experience in accounting with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Experience supporting external audits and annual/quarterly close processes
  • Familiarity with accounts payable, purchase orders, capital assets, depreciation
  • Experience with P-card and T&E policies; ability to monitor compliance
  • Strong data analysis and ability to improve processes and controls
