Job description

The Accounting Analyst is a key contributor in our collaborative and supportive Finance team. It encompasses all aspects of Accounting, offering comprehensive accounting services to branches and subsidiaries. This role serves as a functional subject matter expert for accounting inquiries within the highly regulated and complex financial services industry. The ideal candidate is an intermediate accountant actively pursuing their CPA designation.

This position will provide a highly flexible hybrid schedule (not fully remote), with approximately one-two days a week in our corporate office in North Vancouver.

Key responsibilities of this role are :

  • In collaboration with the team, prepares monthly financial statements and reports for the credit union and its subsidiaries.
  • In partnership with Finance team, actively works on preparing year-end consolidated and unconsolidated financial statements, associated schedules, supporting working papers and accompanying notes to the financial statements for the annual external audit.
  • Prepares monthly securitization reports and reconciliations, reviews existing accounting policies, procedures, and updates as necessary. Assists with completing year-end CMHC audit for regulatory standards.
  • Prepares some of the statistical reports for regulators and other external stakeholders (BCFSA, Central 1) for the purposes of monitoring, information gathering and system wide sharing.
  • In collaboration with the team, prepares financial reporting, analysis and any other material required for Audit Committee and Board reporting.
  • Coordinates all fixed asset accounting including classification, set up and tracking, monthly balancing, ad-hoc queries, fixed asset budget and year-end audit working papers.
  • Acts as a back up for daily reconciliation, identifies and investigates outstanding charges and credits.
  • Reviews monthly financial statements for assigned branches to identify anomalies and explain variances.
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliation for BlueShore Financial subsidiaries.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual corporate budget.
  • Identifies and reviews current processes to improve operational efficiencies and internal controls.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in supporting the accounting team and clients with accounting inquiries.
  • Special ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Enrolled in the CPA program
  • 4+ years accounting experience
  • Solid knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
  • Understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is an asset
  • Experience in financial services considered an asset

The target range of this role is $74,000 - $91,000 / year, plus a variable performance bonus. Employment offers are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
