Job description

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, the Accounting Advisor will: Duties: u00A0

  • E nsure the accurate and timely internal and external reporting of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group as well as any of its related entities (the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health, the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research, the Royal Ottawa Volunteer Association, Atlas, Friends of the Royal Ottawa Foundation).
  • Provide support to the general ledger system.
  • Prepare, control and monitor all transactions related to month end accounting cycle.
  • Complete analysis and reconciliations of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Support the treasury function for all entities which includes monitoring cash balances, forecasting cash flow, and preparing bank reconciliations.
  • Support interim and year-end audit requests.
  • Participate in various committees, working groups and internal and external projects.
Full-Cycle Accountant:
  • Prepare, control and monitor all transactions related to month end accounting cycle u00A0
  • Prepare complex adjusting entries and accruals in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. u00A0
  • Obtain information from internal and external sources that will lead to proper accounting and ensure accurate financial reporting. u00A0
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in the accounting records to improve financial data. u00A0
Financial Reporting & Analyst Specialist:
  • E nsure accurate and timely internal and external reporting.
  • Completion and/or oversight over the internal monthly financial statements for ROHCG entities. u00A0
  • Prepare various reports at the request of management. u00A0
  • Implement new innovative practices and procedures with the team u00A0
  • Prepare and submit government reports such as charity returns, capital asset reporting. u00A0
Corporate Accounting: u00A0
  • Complete analysis and reconciliations of accounts.
  • Analyse balance sheet accounts, including the revision, reconciliation and the comprehension of all the transactions. u00A0
  • Analyse income statement transactions. u00A0
  • Prepare monthly financial statement analysis for the internal reporting package, including variance analysis and comparative analysis. u00A0
  • Participate in the analysis of special projects assigned upon request. u00A0
Treasury and Banking Coordinator:
  • Support the treasury function for all entities.
  • Monitor cash balances for all entities regularly.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and work together with team members to identify and resolve any discrepancies in the accounting records.
  • Prepare cash forecasting, including analysis of inflows and outflows, to ensure future obligations can be met.
  • Communicate with external banking contacts as needed.
Audit Support:
  • Support interim and year-end audit requests. u00A0
  • Prepare working papers for the audit file relating to balance sheet and income statement accounts. u00A0
  • Completion and/or oversight over the annual audited financial statements for ROHCG entities, including the main entity. u00A0
  • Communicate with external parties to ensure timely completion of audit requests. u00A0
Other:
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Safeguard financial information including proper storage and retention of financial records.
  • Follow through on client, staff, internal and external inquiries in a timely manner.

Qualifications:
  • Four year undergraduate degree in Accounting/Commerce/Finance
  • CPA Designation
  • Registration with CPA Ontario
  • Minimum of 5 yearsu2019 experience working in a computerized accounting environment, with proficiency in accounting software and digital financial systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, able to interpret complex financial data and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills and time-management skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Flexible with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of spreadsheets, with strong working knowledge of Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis functions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate across teams and present financial insights clearly to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential financial information with professionalism.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.
