The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices a culturally responsive pedagogy approach to provide an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy education that supports personal and academic success for the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. This area covers 5,250 square kilometres and includes 23 schools.

Description:

The High School Teacher will be responsible for teaching and supporting students within the SSRCE framework. The teacher will participate in individualized program planning with staff and families to maximize learning experiences, within the Inclusive Education Policy framework.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • University education in Business OR at least three (3) years of recent teaching experience (within the last seven years) teaching at least 50% Business, with positive performance reviews or references
  • University education in Math OR at least three (3) years of recent teaching experience (within the last seven years) teaching at least 50% Math, with positive performance reviews or references

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional development in Math and Business
  • Experience teaching Math and Business
  • Experience teaching Grades 10-12
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, electronic)
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams for early intervention, service coordination, and program planning
  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Understanding of developmental trauma and its impact on learning and social engagement
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and strategies based on student needs
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in planning training and professional development for students with behavioral concerns
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Valuing others’ voices and contributions, open to constructive feedback
