Job Description
ACCOUNTANT

Our client, a market leading Manufacturing company specializing in the powder coating and sandblasting markets, is currently seeking a new Accountant in their quest to remain a top competitor in their field and craft. This company has operated in the heart of Mississauga, ON for the last 50 years and is a sister company of a much larger International company specializing in the complex aluminum market. Now together, they require a thorough, hands-on Accountant to own the standalone accounting department handling all accounting operations for this location.

GENERAL DUTIES & WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Be able to handle all aspects of accounting for a small company of around $3 MILL in annual revenue.
  • Weekly payroll for 20 employees (mostly hourly Unionized).
  • Full coverage of AP, AR, and G/L activity.
  • Create and maintain internal controls and policies.
  • Journal entries, reconciliation of balance sheet accounting, annual closings, financial reporting - you name it you'll be involved in it.
  • Prep and publish monthly Financial Statements - further reviewed with Controller prior to publishing.
  • Work with auditors.
  • Weekly and monthly reports on sales and costs.
  • Analysis of sales and costing.
  • Report on group health, RRSP, WSIB, and HST.
  • Monitor customer accounts - some light collection activities. More relationship-based, gentle reminder calls/emails.
  • Monitor bank account balances and cash flow.
  • Have a process improvement mindset. They are transitioning to QuickBooks Online. Be a pivotal figure in upgrades or implementation on the accounting systems. Excellent experience for your resume.
  • Streamlining the purchasing function.

Requirements
  • Accounting background including a Degree or Diploma in Finance, Accounting, and/or Business.
  • Strong technical knowledge including MS Excel.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in an accounting capacity.
  • Very thorough and detail-oriented.
  • Flexible and adaptable in nature.
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently (will need to demonstrate with examples).
  • Planner and prioritizer able to execute efficiently on daily tasks.
  • Fun-natured with a great personality and sense of humour.
  • Like to work with fun and friendly people in a supportive, caring, and collaborative office environment.
Benefits

Salary: Circa $55,000 - $62,500 p/a
