We produce over 1000 events annually across 9 owned and operated venues and have produced concerts hosted in clubs and arenas domestically, as well as Europe and Asia-Pacific. Who you are:

Passionate about live entertainment, you are a master communicator and want to grow your career within Canada's largest independent concert and promotion company. The Accountant, Live & Venues is responsible for the financial management of MRG Live (Concerts, Events/Festivals, and hospitality venue portfolios).

The Fine Print

  • Own the full-scope accounting & reconciliation processes across all events programmed and/or produced through Live and Venue divisions.
  • Own and optimize the House Billing process; prepare labor and cost estimates, including rate card rents, manage house billing for events across MRG Live Event venues to support MRG Live Booking executives and other operators.
  • Track event costs and ensure accurate financial management throughout the event lifecycle.
  • Maintain proper settlement templates for show settlements with timely communication with the relevant business units across the company to update information as appropriate.
  • Review contracts and conduct settlements with promoters and artist representatives on event nights to ensure accuracy.
  • Own the month-end close process, prepare profit and loss (P&L) statements, and compile post-event estimates/adjustments.
  • Record revenue, costs and associated taxes as relates to Live and Events in Sage.
  • Develop financial and operational expertise across MRG's Venues related to labor and non-labor expenses, guide operators as and where needed.
  • Record all relevant entries for event and concert settlement and book intercompany transactions in the accounting system.
  • Own Balance Sheet reconciliations for relevant legal entities and/or account GLs across Live, Events & Festivals, and Hospitality.
  • Computation of non-resident WHT remittances, slip generation for T4A-NR, and all other related tax requirements across all Canadian jurisdictions and overseas. Evaluate current accounting processes to identify areas of improvements to ensure accurate reporting and champion change process.
  • Provide primary analytical support to special projects as assigned.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field and equivalent work experience.
  • At least 3 years of work experience ideally within the live entertainment industry (concerts, family attractions, performing arts, and special events).
  • Proficiency in Excel, attention to detail, and excellent time-management skills are a must.
  • Proficient understanding of Sage Intacct or similar cloud accounting systems an asset.
  • Ability to work both independently to troubleshoot and problem solve, curious by nature, open to embracing change and ambiguity.
  • Natural ability to be a reliable team member, capable of effective collaboration and operates on high emotional intelligence, can communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and build positive relationships; tailoring the message based on the purpose, audience, and channel.
