Job summary

Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) seeks an Accountant (Arena) to support monthly financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and year-end activities for Vancouver arena operations.

In-office, full-time position requiring 2+ years of accounting experience, a relevant degree, and strong Excel skills. The role includes intercompany reconciliations, GST/PST filings, and collaboration with leadership to deliver accurate financial results.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years general accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Accounting or Business
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, MS Word, E-mail, D365 or other accounting systems
  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required

Responsibilities

  • Bank and petty cash reconciliations and postings
  • Maintain prepaid schedules and book amortization entries
  • Maintain and reconcile purchasing credit card accounts
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and working papers
  • Manage monthly intercompany reconciliations for 10+ entities
  • Work with accounts payable on GL coding and monthly accruals
  • Prepare monthly tax filings for GST, PST, and Translink Parking Tax
  • Assist with annual year end audit preparation
  • Approve employee expense claims in SAP Concur and post to GL
  • Assist in financial matters across Canucks Sports & Entertainment group

Job description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant (Arena) is responsible in assisting with the preparation of monthly financial statements, monitoring the annual budget, assisting with forecasting, and other duties as outlined below. This position is full-time in office.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

(Other duties may be assigned as required)

  • Bank and petty cash reconciliations and postings
  • Maintain prepaid schedules and book amortization entries
  • Maintain and reconcile purchasing credit card accounts
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and working papers
  • Manage monthly intercompany reconciliations for our 10+ entities, identifying posting discrepancies between them, and working with each entity’s accountant to resolve all issues
  • Work closely with accounts payable to assist with GL coding and payment inquiries, as well as identifying monthly accruals to be made
  • Prepare monthly tax filings for GST, PST, and Translink Parking Tax
  • Assist with the annual year end audit preparation
  • Approve employee expense claims in SAP Concur, ensuring proper back-up, manager approvals, and GL coding are provided to finance. Post expense claim entries into our accounting system
  • Assist in financial matters related to other companies within the Canucks Sports & Entertainment group of companies as required, including assistance with reconciliations and special projects
Full cycle accounting for Vancouver Arena Limited Partnership (Rogers Arena)
  • Bank and petty cash reconciliations and postings
  • Maintain prepaid schedules and book amortization entries
  • Maintain and reconcile purchasing credit card accounts
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and working papers
  • Manage monthly intercompany reconciliations for our 10+ entities, identifying posting discrepancies between them, and working with each entity’s accountant to resolve all issues

Ticket Revenue
  • Record Ticketmaster deposits into accounting system while maintaining the breakdown of each deposit by event type and ticket fee component.
Reporting
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for Controller review
  • Prepare and distribute weekly cash reporting for all entities
Annual Budget
  • Maintain labour tracking reports, tracking labour expenses, number of workers, and total hours by position and by event to assist in the budgeting process
Required Experience And Qualifications
  • 2+ years general accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Accounting or Business
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, MS Word, E-mail, D365 or other accounting systems
  • Strong work ethic, loyalty, and dedication is expected
  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Speed and accuracy in data entry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively communicate financial results to various members of the Leadership Team
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment under strict time deadlines
  • A team player with a strong customer service focus
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required
