We are seeking an Accountant in our Toronto office to join the America's Region Financial Accounting team, managing the region's statutory reporting process and audits.

The individual will be part of the Global Financial Accounting Team, working closely with local finance partners, the Shared Services Center teams in Newcastle, UK, and project management teams in Canada and the US. The role involves identifying and implementing process improvements, documentation, and compliance with statutory regulations. It will support financial reporting and contribute to business operations and internal control enhancements.

The opportunity

  • Handle daily audit activities, prepare financial statements, and implement process improvements.
  • Oversee statutory reporting, including the preparation of annual financial statements and disclosures in accordance with IFRS or local GAAP.
  • Maintain accurate audit documentation of reporting processes and controls.
  • Ensure timely completion of audit requests and proper documentation of processes.
  • Provide support on company projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Assist in overseeing the statutory WIP process from business to auditors.
  • Implement and oversee controls within your areas of responsibility.
  • Challenge current processes and promote innovative working methods.
  • Collaborate with other departments to review supporting schedules and improve reporting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support the main audit contact and respond to audit requests.

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or economics.
  • Qualified CPA or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance.
  • Experience in Financial Reporting, Finance, and Statutory Accounting.
  • Ability to apply accounting principles to new scenarios.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of ERP solutions (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JDE) is preferred.
  • Attention to detail and an inquisitive mindset.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
