About the Role

As an Accountant under our Business Services Group, you will be responsible to maintain proper ledgers, registers, accounts, journals as well as similar financial records. In this role, you will regularly collaborate with members of Brookfield’s Business Services Group Accounting team and support the Senior Accountant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process for a portfolio of companies;
  • Determine and prepare timely and accurate general journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting;
  • Issue intercompany chargeback invoices for recurring transactions (incl. billables);
  • Maintain, monitor and reconcile monthly general ledger reconciliations;
  • Perform bank and other account reconciliations;
  • Investigation / analysis of intercompany balances / chargeback issues;
  • Prepare and issue external customer invoices;
  • Support other departments such as Financial Reporting, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Consolidations in achieving successful internal and external reporting through providing variance analysis on non-complex accounts / LEs and supporting their understanding of the Accounting records;
  • Account for PPE additions and disposals and maintain CWIP and fixed asset schedules.
  • Prepare and file Canadian and US sales tax returns (incl. supporting with property tax);
  • Generate and analyze monthly / quarterly financial reports;
  • Provide year-end audit support to auditor questions and requests;
  • Support with UAT testing on strategic initiatives or software upgrades;
  • Support forecasting and budgeting initiatives;
  • Perform ad hoc projects as needed during the year;
  • Assist in the integration of new assets / acquisitions into the consolidated accounting and reporting process

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines, particularly around month and quarter end close;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize competing responsibilities while working in a very fast paced, dynamic, high volume team environment;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply sound professional judgment under pressure;
  • Strong communication skills are required;
  • Flexibility to work additional hours when needed at quarter end or during peak periods;
  • Experience with Financial Systems such IFS, Blackline, IT2, OneStream or similar systems will be desired;
  • 3+ years experience performing full-cycle accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent in relevant work experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS and US GAAP is an asset);
  • Strong MS Excel skills (including vlookup and pivot tables) with the ability to learn new systems quickly;
  • CPA designation or very near completion will be considered an asset - Brookfield Renewable provides a PPR for practical experience, joining over 500 employers across Ontario in supporting the training of future CPA leaders.
  • Experience in working in a public listed companies (in US or Canada) will be considered an asset.

Note : Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Brookfield’s identity. This position requires the employee to be on-site for a minimum of 4 days to perform most effectively.
